Revealed: Top 10 digital trailblazers

 A Top Ten list pinpoints the rural areas where online entrepreneurs are boosting the local economy.

The Rural Digital Trailblazers league table was devised by internet giant Google, which teamed up with the Countryside Alliance.

The project aims to highlight that entrepreneurs needn’t be based in an industrial centre or a traditional urban hub to start or grow a business.

Three villages on Lincolnshire coast to get superfast broadband by autumn

THREE east coast villages should have a superfast broadband connection by the autumn under a new pilot scheme.

Ingoldmells, Chapel St Leonards and Willoughby with Sloothby have been selected among only a handful of other rural locations to form part of a small scale roll out by Lincolnshire County Council.

Smartphones take over the world

Mobile devices will outnumber the world’s population in just four years. By 2016, there will be more than 10 billion devices that connect to the internet, shared between 7.3 billion people.

About 90 per cent of mobile data will be viewed through smartphones, laptops and portable gadgets, according to computer networking company Cisco Systems. They also predict that mobile data traffic will grow by almost 80% a year.

Cisco’s Suraj Shetty said: ‘This impressive growth in mobile traffic will be driven by more powerful devices, like tablets, using faster networks such as 4G and wi-fi.’
