The success of some of the region’s most innovative businesses was celebrated at last night’s Insider Yorkshire Digital & Technology Awards 2012. The awards, held at The Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, attracted more than 200 businesses as the Yorkshire digital sector continues to grow and thrive. A NEW internet exchange has been launched today to provide faster and cheaper broadband for Yorkshire. The non-profit exchange point, which has been developed by a collaboration of organisations since 2008, also aims to make Yorkshire less dependent upon London.

Mr Fordyce explained that by enabling traffic to take a more direct route between many ISP networks, an IXP can improve the efficiency of the internet, resulting in a better service for the end user. Sometimes our best made business plans go horribly wrong, maybe because we misread the markets or changes happened that were beyond our control – such as global financial melt down.
So what do we do – we have to survive – there is a suit sat in 11 Downing Street thinking exactly the same thing.

Weekly business tweet – #05

Does anyone remember clocking in for 8.30am, out and in for lunch and out again at 5.00pm? Did you have an electronic time keeping system with the file of reconciliation sheets you had to produce for errors? Older friends tell us of the days of interviews when you were not appointed if you could not make it in for 8.30am. These memories are not extinct in some organisations but most have adopted flexible and mobile working to improve services, reduce costs and be more responsive to customer demands. So where is the world of work going? What are the smart ways of working that reduce costs and improve business performance?
