Screen Yorkshire has announced its panel of financial, legal and media experts who will independently advise it on the new £15m Yorkshire Content Fund (YCF). The Independent Advisory Panel’s (IAP) role is to scrutinise and advise on the portfolio of investments across the YCF and ensure it is hitting targets for recoupment, job creation and economic activity. The Yorkshire Content Fund will invest £7.5m of European Regional Development Funding into TV, film, games and digital which will be matched with private investment on a project-by-project basis. Councils should step in to fill the £4 billion gap in regional development funding that has emerged since the election, a report by the New Local Government Network (NLGN) has said. The report urges councils to become ‘social venture capitalists’ and collaborate to set up revolving investment funds. The NLGN argues that these funds could be used to restart stalled projects and provide seed funding to generate local economic growth and new jobs.

Fast broadband is set to be rolled out to three villages in east Lincolnshire.
Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) has chosen three east coast villages to receive vastly improved broadband connectivity as part of a new pilot scheme.
The communities of Willoughby with Sloothby, Ingoldmells and Chapel St Leonards – currently some of the worst broadband notspots in Lincolnshire – are set to benefit from the 18-month initiative, which is being financed by the European Regional Development Fund.
Under the local authority’s broadband strategy, a combination of fibre-to-the-cabinet and fibre-to-the-premises technology will be rolled out to between 85 and 90 per cent of properties across the county by maximising private investment, supporting community solutions and stimulating provision of a range of broadband services. THREE east coast villages should have a superfast broadband connection by the autumn under a new pilot scheme.
