Mini Technology Blog – Skype
I was looking at Microsoft Skype as an alternative to Zoom or Google Hangouts for video meetings.
You need to download the software and set up an account with a username and password.
All you need to do is invite, through their email addresses, participants/ colleagues to set up an account and download the software and then generate a link by searching for them and adding them to your Skype contact list.
You send a meeting request or just agree a time that you will talk.
When you open the Skype app to start a New Chat and you have a list of all your contacts that you have Skype links with, add participants by clicking on them in your contact list.
Click the video call button and it starts ringing all the participants.
You can share desktops, and it can also work audio only if the broadband signal is poor.
You can have up to 50 participants but I would suggest you leave it to half a dozen.
The free version allows meetings of unlimited call length.
This is a great application for remote working, keeping in touch with both your clients and members of staff.
Pros
- Call history on your dashboard
- Up to 50 participants
- Unlimited call length
- It works on Smart Phones
- It works on Windows, MAC, OS X and Linux
Cons
- Need to download the software and set up an account to connect using Skype.
Give it a try
